Last week, Hannah and Catherine, from our commercial department attended the HBAA Annual Forum 2014 in Twickenham Rugby grounds. Hannah shares her experience of the day:
QEII Centre is a venue member of the HBAA – the trade association for the hotel booking agency, apartment and venue community. Joined by 350 delegates, Catherine and I were there for two days of sessions particularly focused on our individual sectors.
The event kicked off with a lively presentation from economist Dennis Turner on the growth of the economy in the UK. For those of us not blessed with numerical ability, Dennis’s presentation was really entertaining and peppered with cheeky jokes about his wife’s spending habits. Other sessions on the first day involved an interesting panel discussion with industry leaders on the PriceWaterHouse industry trends report, and a service masterclass for venues about dealing with agents. The first day ended with a rousing performance from the thoroughly energetic Nigel Botterill on his no-nonsense approach to winning and keeping customers. The evening meal, hosted by Radisson Blu Edwardian Heathrow, gave us the opportunity to network and build some great new connections.
Day two was very sector focused with sessions streamed based on your position within your organisation, as well as some great networking opportunities. It was a great two days and we came back armed with more knowledge on how best to serve our clients and create memorable events.
