The National Olympic Committee Of Italy Chooses The QEIICC As ‘Casa Italia’ For London 2012

CONI (The National Olympic Committee of Italy) has chosen The Queen Elizabeth II Centre (QEIICC), London’s premier purpose built conference centre, as its home for the duration of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

CONI will be utilising the whole of the Centre for an exposition of Italian companies (which is open to the general public), a performance centre for Italian Artists and also for hospitality for the Italian Olympic family and its guests.

Raffaele Pagnozzi, CEO of CONI said “Compared to the 2008 Beijing Games, the main elements which played in favour of selecting the best solution when choosing the location, that is to host Casa Italia for London 2012, have been the prestige of the location, the central position of the venue and the easiness in reaching it. In addition, the promotion for the bid of Rome 2020 has also been taken into account”

“For the first time in the history of CONI,” Pagnozzi stresses, “the location chosen to host Casa Italia shall also be the used as the headquarters for the Paralympic Committee. The total absence of architectural barriers shall provide a prestigious and functional showcase also for the people involved in the Paralympics.”

Sue Etherington, Commercial Director of The QEIICC said: “We are looking forward to welcoming CONI to London and to hosting their Olympic family. We are also assisting them create an environment to promote Italy, its companies and artists – thus ensuring they have a commercially successful Olympic period.”

London & Partners assisted CONI with the venue selection process.
