The QEII Centre teed off the summer for clients and partners with a golf-themed garden party on the green at the Westminster venue.
On Wednesday 3 July, the sun was shining as QEII welcomed guests to Birdie Island for an evening of mini-golf, musical entertainment and a celebration of the best of British food and drink.
At the centre of the green was a custom-made, eight-hole golf course, created by event theming partners EventTrees in the shape of the QEII logo. Each hole represented one of the centre’s core values or key areas of success, including celebrating its staff, championing gender equality and the economic impact the QEII has had within London and the UK.
QEII’s in-house caterers, QEII Taste by Leiths, created a menu of canapés and bowl food that, in-keeping with the quintessentially British theme, took iconic dishes and ingredients and served them in style.
Guests enjoyed mini Yorkshire puddings with rare roast beef and horseradish sauce, oat cakes topped with smoked salmon, cream cheese and keta egg, prawn cocktails with avocado and shredded lettuce, mini fish and chips with tartare sauce, and black and white pudding with mashed potato and apple sauce.
There was also an English sausage station, serving British bangers with mashed potatoes or brioche buns, customisable with condiments including onion confit, apple sauce and mustard.
For dessert, a dark chocolate delice with salted caramel and raspberry was served, alongside a vintage ice cream buggy provided by Lick Me I’m Delicious, offering whisky salted caramel and wasabi and honey ice cream cones.
The pop-up cocktail bar from Shake and Stir served a selection of classic British tipples, including a fruity Summer Punch, combining the traditional flavours of a Pimm’s Cup with citrus and blackberries; and a London Garden which featured gin, elderflower and cucumber. Wine came from The Uncommon, with sparkling white and rose cans.
Entertainment came courtesy of acoustic guitar and saxophone trio The Wandering Hands, who delighted guests with renditions of some of their favourite songs on request. After everyone had tried their hand at the golf course and score cards had been submitted, a prize draw was held with a top prize of a luxury hamper from Fortnum and Mason and a second prize of a climb of the O2 for two.

The past year has seen our best financial results to date, an increased impact on the London economy, numerous award wins and some incredibly exciting events taking place, and it was a pleasure to celebrate all of this with an evening of relaxed networking, delicious food and drink and some friendly competitiveness on the golf course.”
The QEII hosts more than 450 national and international events a year. The seven-floor venue can accommodate up to 2,500 delegates across 32 adaptable conference and events spaces, holding up to 1,300 theatre style in a single room.
