QEII Centre’s Steven Mann wins miaList award

AV Project Manager

QEII Centre AV Project Manager, Steven Mann has been awarded the ‘Back of House’ title in the Meetings Industry Association’s award, miaList 2016.

Steven, who has worked at the Centre since March 2014, picked up the award, which celebrates those outstanding and passionate individuals in the sector, at a prestigious lunch on Friday at the Park Plaza Victoria, London.

QEII Centre HR director, Raj Pragji, nominated Steven for the miaList, as he and his colleagues have been so impressed with his work since he originally joined as a lighting technician. Over the last two years the 24-year-old has been continually given more responsibilities and now plays a central role in the AV team.

In particular Raj and his peers felt Steven’s appetite for professional development sets him apart from his contemporaries. Something that was also picked up by the judges when Steven, and the other short-listed candidates, individually went before the panel.

Jane Longhurst, chief executive of the mia, said: “The judges were impressed by Steven’s professionalism and felt he was a great ambassador for Westminster’s QEII – consistently delivering to high standards. They thought he was a highly motivated, ambitious team player who was very focussed and eager to learn to extend his knowledge and embrace change. He also identifies areas for improvement in the department and is not afraid to suggest change as he has a strong desire to progress and seek professional development opportunities, rather than waiting to be selected.”

Steven has received excellent client feedback for being supportive and solving last minute problems and has taken on the management of some of QEII’s largest conference events; LMA, Isokinetic and EEF.

Raj Pragji, said: “Steven is a real team player and is thought highly of both in the AV department and other departments across the centre. He is always willing to lend a helping hand to his colleagues and keeps up to date on all of the latest technologies, passing this information on to the team.”

She added: “Steven is a real pleasure to work with and we strongly believe in giving our staff the support they need to develop in their careers and progress within the company. At such a young age, Steven is without a doubt one of QEII’s rising stars and we know he will go far in the meetings industry.”

Steven said: “I’m so proud to have secured a place on the miaList 2016. I thought just being short-listed at 24 was an achievement, but to actually achieve a place is such an honour.”

Steven’s colleague, event manager Stuart Drummond, was also short-listed for the miaList 2016.
