Behind the Scenes at the QEII with Richard Glover

Our staff spotlight turns to our in-house catering team, QEII Taste who continue to develop innovative, seasonal menus that focus on refreshing, refuelling and energising our delegates. At the heart of this is the need to protect the planet and the menu ingredients are fresh, locally sourced and sustainable, helping our clients and delegates to enjoy a tasty meal and feel good about the choices they have made!

Today, we catch up with Richard Glover, Head of Events at QEII Taste to find out more about his role, how the atmosphere at the venue makes it such a great place to work and taking Argentine Tango lessons in his youth!

How long have you been working at the QEII Centre?

I have worked at the QEII for the past 4 years.

What are the key aspects of your role?

I oversee all food and beverage operations at the QEII.

To look after my F & B team supporting them in every possible way to deliver best event possible. If the team have any questions or requests, I am on hand to help them ensure that these are met.

Working with and supporting my General Manager to achieve the goals that have been set.

What do you love most about your role?

I love the buzz around the venue when at full capacity and seeing client’s satisfaction emails that are returned at the end of the events.

I also love working alongside our colleagues in each one of our supporting departments within the venue.

What three words would you use to describe the QEII Centre?

Vibrant, lively, and supportive

Why would you use those words?

The atmosphere around the venue is very lively and has a certain buzz about it that is a joy to work in and the support that we have within the venue bonds us like our family away from home.

How do you think events will change in the future?

I think events in general will become much more sustainable in all aspects of the word such as moving towards consuming less animal products, measuring the carbon footprint we leave behind on our daily events and being more sufficient in recycling.

What have you taken out of the last eighteen months that you will continue to do?

Having been seriously ill with Covid, not to take for granted my health and wellbeing as well as living each day of my life to the fullest.

Tell us something that people won’t know about you

I used to take Argentinian tango lessons in my youth, which was great fun! I haven’t danced in a while, so I don’t think I will be appearing on Strictly Come Dancing any time soon!
