From catering to AV, operations to cleaning, our teams ensure that our venue is always event-ready and that every guest walks into a space that feels welcoming, comfortable, and professional. One of those people is Cleaner Supervisor Joaquim Pisco, whose work plays a crucial role in ensuring our events shine — quite literally. We sat down with Joaquim to hear more about his role, his team, and what it means to create memorable experiences for our clients.
What does a typical day at the QEII Centre involve?
“A typical day begins with a team briefing to discuss the events scheduled and any specific cleaning requirements. My day includes routine cleaning tasks, such as vacuuming, dusting, and sanitising common areas, as well as preparing for upcoming events. I also check supplies to ensure we have everything needed for the day.”
What are your main responsibilities on an event day?
“On an event day, my main responsibilities include ensuring the venue is clean and presentable before guests arrive. This involves thorough cleaning of all event spaces, restrooms, and common areas. I also monitor cleanliness throughout the event, addressing any spills or messes immediately to maintain a welcoming environment.”
What crucial aspect of your job do people often overlook?
“A crucial aspect that often goes unnoticed is the importance of sanitation and hygiene, especially in high-traffic areas. While guests enjoy the event, they may not realise the effort that goes into keeping everything clean and safe. Regular deep cleaning and attention to detail are vital for upholding our standards.
How do you prepare the space before an event?
“Preparing the space involves a comprehensive cleaning checklist. I start by vacuuming and mopping floors, dusting surfaces, and sanitising high-touch areas like doorknobs and light switches. I also ensure that restrooms are fully stocked and clean, creating a pleasant experience for guests.”
What do you take the most pride in about your work?
“I take pride in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness that contributes to the overall atmosphere of the venue. Positive feedback from guests about the cleanliness of the facilities reinforces my commitment to excellence. Knowing that my work helps create a pleasant environment is very gratifying.”
How do you contribute to creating memorable experiences for guests, even if they don’t see your work?
“I contribute by ensuring that the venue is spotless and well-maintained, which directly impacts guests’ comfort and enjoyment. Even if they don’t see me in action, a clean environment helps set a positive tone for the event. When guests feel comfortable and safe, they can fully engage in the experience, making it memorable.”
