Global Connections and Bold Conversations: The QEII Centre at IMEX America
Catherine Cook, Global Lead for Associations, QEII Centre
This year’s IMEX America was one of the busiest yet, with the London & Partners stand at its largest ever – featuring 33 partners, including the QEII Centre. The atmosphere was full of energy, ideas and opportunity, reminding us once again why IMEX is such an important event for our industry.
It was fantastic to reconnect with clients, meet new contacts and have honest, forward-looking conversations about where our industry is heading. There was a real sense of curiosity from planners, who all wanted to hear what’s new at the QEII Centre and how we’re adapting to a fast-changing global landscape.
We also saw strong interest in London’s continued growth and in the QEII’s focus on sustainability, technology and exceptional service.
Key Trends Shaping the Industry
Three key themes stood out for me this year: sustainability, technology integration and inclusivity.
Sustainability remains a top priority, but expectations are higher than ever. Organisers want to see real, measurable impact – from reducing energy use to considering how delegates travel. That focus reinforces our own commitment to transparency, environmental responsibility and continued investment in greener operations.
Technology is also transforming how events are designed and delivered. AI is no longer a buzzword, it’s helping planners create more personalised, data-driven and efficient experiences. Whether it’s through smarter scheduling or digital engagement tools, technology is making events more seamless and, importantly, more human.
Inclusivity is another defining theme. Accessibility, representation and fair pricing are now central to how organisations choose their partners. These values reflect what the QEII Centre stands for – creating welcoming, flexible and inclusive spaces for everyone who walks through our doors.
Strengthening Global Connections
IMEX America was also an incredible opportunity to build stronger relationships with international buyers and event planners. The relaxed but focused setting made it easy to connect on a deeper level, to share updates on London’s infrastructure, talk about upcoming projects and discuss how the QEII continues to support major international congresses.
Meeting face-to-face helped us reinforce trust, explore new opportunities with PCOs and associations, and identify areas for collaboration with agencies and North American organisations looking to bring their events to Europe.
These conversations have already opened doors for future partnerships, with the QEII’s location, flexibility and sustainability credentials standing out as major strengths. It was also inspiring to see how other destinations are telling their sustainability stories – something we’re continuing to build on as we shape our own narrative and celebrate our progress.
Why Global Events Like IMEX Matter
Events like IMEX America remind us why showing up globally matters. They bring together decision-makers from across the world and create space for genuine connection, learning and collaboration.
Beyond new business leads, they offer a valuable pulse check on global trends, expectations and opportunities. For us, being part of IMEX with London & Partners helps us stay visible on the world stage and reinforces our commitment to excellence, innovation and sustainability.
And the conversations don’t stop here. We’re looking forward to continuing them at IBTM World later this year, where the QEII Centre will be joining the London Convention Bureau on stand G30. It’s another exciting opportunity to showcase London’s strength as a global meetings destination and to share how the QEII Centre is leading the way in sustainability, innovation and outstanding client experience.
